The 10 Most Expensive Properties Sold in Toronto in 2019

Real estate prices in Toronto are always rising, but these lofty condos and sprawling villas are a step above the rest when it comes to the prices they fetched on the market. Come take a peek at how the other half lives in this look at the 10 most expensive properties sold in Toronto in 2019.

We’re going to split our entries into the top 5 condos sold and top 5 freeholds sold for a little variety. These archived MLS listings tell a story of the lives of real estate listings in Toronto, the realtors and brokers who sold them, and the taste of the rich when it comes to luxury houses for sale. We’ll go over Toronto house prices, the difference between the listing prices and sold prices, days on market, and, of course, photos of the most expensive houses sold in Toronto in 2019.

The Most Expensive Condos Sold in Toronto

The condos of this list all have one pretty obvious link: they are all in downtown Toronto, or close to it. The top 10 most expensive condos are all between University and Yonge, with nothing farther north than St Clair. Yorkville sees the largest concentration of elegant high-rise riches, with the Summerhill and Deer Park areas close behind. Perhaps being a small step away from the crush of buildings south of Bloor gets you just enough space to be extravagant. Condos for sale are a dime (or 500k) a dozen, but these luxury homes are a rare cut above the rest.

5. 224 King St W

10 most expensive properties toronto condo 1

This condo is all sleek and modern with a touch of the posh, with granite textures and dark-stained wood study. The view from this corner unit on King Street encompasses a lot of the Toronto skyline, from the heart of the Toronto skyline. 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms are complimented by a walk-in closet, wine cellar, and a massive terrace with awning and outdoor firepit.

This luxury condo takes up the entire 47th floor and sold 500k under asking at $5,350,000.

4. 9 Jackes Ave

One thing you’ll definitely notice in taking a look through luxury condos is that they often look more like well-put-together Victorian homes on the inside, rather than the more sparse and modern look we’re used to seeing in the average downtown Toronto condo. Every available edge in this condo is bevelled with elaborate crown molding. This unit boasts 2+1 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a fireplace, and a collection of amazing city views. This property was sold for $5,750,000, just 100k under asking.

3. 38 Avenue Road

most expensive properties sold in toronto 2019 luxury condo sale 3-1.png

Compared to the other units we’re looking at, the interior design of this home is rather modest, with understated grays, molding that isn’t overly complex, and bathrooms without the usual modern ultra-simplicity. Something in the design of this luxury condo reminds me of a more humble middle-class bungalow, perfect for a home-y family life that gets a bit messy. It certainly has the space for that, with 3+1 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and a huge floorplan somewhere around the 4300 sqft mark.

10 most expensive properties toronto condo 6

This unit spent a staggering 92 days on the market, and sold for 1.9 million under asking, for a total of $6,200,000. Perhaps the listing agent made a miscalculation on this one.

2. 50 Yorkville

10 most expensive properties toronto condo 7

More crown-molding and polished floors, gilded edges and lush curtains. This property has a massive carpeted living area that you’d assume belonged to an upscaled open concept townhouse if it weren’t for the sky-high horizon view. This 2+1 bedroom, 3 bathroom condo sold at a remarkably fast 16 days for $6,350,000, $450k under asking (are you seeing a trend?)

1. 33 Jackes Ave

most expensive properties sold in toronto 2019 luxury condo sale 1-1.png

Here we are at the most expensive condo sold in Toronto in 2019. And we have… even more crown-molding, more aggressively white interior design, with a strangely modern kitchen that almost looks out of place compared to the rest of the condo. The incredibly dated balusters really hammer home the questionable design choices in this extravagant unit. We’re just being picky for fun- but for a cool $6.5 mill though, you expect the best.

The location at the posh 33 Jackes Ave is a significant point in this units favor, as is the massive terrace and crazy high square footage. This listing sold incredibly quickly at 6 days on the market, for $400k under asking.

The Most Expensive Freeholds Sold in Toronto

The most expensive freehold homes in Toronto tend to rest in the wide pocket south of Highway 401, West of the DVP, east of Bathurst, and North of Bloor. This area, in many places, features more spread out streets and more smatterings of green spaces while still being a short jaunt from central downtown Toronto. In between the bustle and grime of the packed city lie hidden groves with manicured gardens and mansions for those who can pay the very, very considerable price. While many Toronto townhomes sell each day, luxury homes like these are few and far between.

5. 87 Dunvegan Rd

most expensive properties sold in toronto 2019 luxury house freehold sale 5-1.png

The first on our list is a prim and proper affair. The traditional architecture of this expensive property isn’t much to write home about, unless you need a whole lot of space. This home has a whopping 23 + 5 rooms and approximately 9000 square footage of space. Play entire sports in the underground garage, cook in one of the multiple kitchens, enjoy an ensuite bathroom and den in the master bedroom, and swim laps in your own pool. If you have the $10,500,000 this property sold for, you probably have the stuff to make use of the space. This home sold in a quick 9 days for 1 million under asking.

4. 208 Sandringham Dr

most expensive properties sold in toronto 2019 luxury house freehold sale 4-1.png

This luxury Toronto home has a bit more of a unique structure, with its dramatic peaks and eclectic variety of window shapes. Its exterior frame leads to some interesting interior rooms, like a rounded pair of sitting areas and strange circular space designed to bring exterior light down through the home’s multiple floors. The yard is nothing short of exquisite, with a tennis court and naturalistically styled pool.

This quirky home sports a significantly more serious purchase price of  $10,200,000, going 2.2 million under asking.

3. 6 The Bridle Path

10 most expensive properties toronto home 3

This Toronto home is likely what comes to mind when asked to picture an “estate”. A cobbled driveway and wrought iron gates lead to this proper block of a house. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that there are several rooms in this home that would make good corporate boardrooms. 6+1 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms give you all the room in the world to conduct your affairs. The inset lighting in many of the ceilings is particularly gorgeous, as is the kitchen. A sizable pool tops off this veritable mansion on one of Toronto’s most elite boulevards.

This luxury Toronto home sold for $11,250,000, 1.65 million under asking after nearly a third of a year on the real estate market.

2. 63 The Bridle Path

And the second-most expensive property sold in Toronto in 2019 is…

Well, that’s not very fun, is it?

For once, the house is obviously not the star of this listing. The value comes in the sizable acreage of the land on one of Toronto’s most prestigious streets chock full of sprawling mansions. This listing was put up for nearly 15 million dollars but sold for just a paltry (hah!) 11.5 million. From the looks of google street view, the new owner is already working away on what is sure to be the newest shining star in The Bridle Path’s crown.

1. 44 Burton Rd

most expensive properties sold in toronto 2019 luxury house freelhold sale 1-1.png

Unlike the other homes we’ve covered so far, this home is all modern polish and strict right angles, favoring the style we see in the newer, narrower builds in the city streets. This construction certainly had the breathing room to sprawl. Clean lines paint the artistic sitting rooms, posh dark office, and the distinct marble of the kitchen and master bathroom.

Unlike all of the other listings on this list, this one actually sold at asking for $13,280,000.
